Today we closed the clinic at 2:00 p.m. The doctors saw 40 patients and the dentists saw 20. We visited 2-3 schools today and gave fluoride treatments, passed out vitamins and parasite medicines. The team is very well and having a great time. We leave tomorrow morning for Tegucigalea. We will be touring the countryside. It was a little cooler today, maybe 90. By the way, the rooms we are staying in are a/c.
Will keep you posted.

This morning the doctors saw 25 patients. Dentists saw 15. We did 204 fluoride treatments. Again we gave out vitamins, toothpaste and brushes, and parasite medicine. The doctors saw a 95 year old woman today and she is in great health! This afternoon we did community assessments and went to some homes. There were 7 teams and did 21 assessments. Some of the houses had dirt floors. This was quite an eye opener for the teams.  The community of El Obraje has a population of approx. 2,000. The news media was in El Obraje today and interviewed me. All the members are doing well. Tomorrow we will have a full day at the clinic. Tomorrow evening we will travel to Danli and stay there. Friday a.m. we will be going to Tegucigalpa and will have a culture day touring the area.
Keep us in your prayers and will keep you posted.  Jim C.

We are in El Obraje, everything is going well. Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. the clinic opened. The doctors have seen 90 patients in two days. Dentists have seen 50 patients. We have done 275 fluoride treatments, have given out parasite meds, adult vitamins and children’s vitamins.
Sunday we visited two churches for services. One of those services was two hours long. The churches and the clinic have NO air conditioning. It’s hot here, 90′s and hi humidity. Everyone is doing well, except Charlotte and Joan have hoarse voices. Please pray for all of us.

The facilities we are staying at are very nice.
Will keep you posted. Jim

I spoke to Molly this evening and the team members are all doing well.  Molly had some incredible stories about the patients they are coming in contact with during their assessments and at the clinic.  There was a man that could not see very well and he was using a machete as a cane (and yes you heard it right).  The team saw a piece of a PVC pipe and they adapted it to be a cane for this man.  They also met a girl that had a bad case of  head lice.  Her hair was so mangled up that the shampoo would not even get down to her scalp.  The ladies of the team gave her a hair cut and shampooed her hair.  What an amazing example of how this team is spreading the love of the Lord.   Molly stated the word is getting that they are here and they are getting more and more people coming in for vitamins, parasite medicine and also fluoride treatments.  Please continue to pray for this team.

Update January 18, 2011

Family, Friends and Prayer Partners,

Trip Leader, Molly, called last night with an update about the team’s activities on Tuesday.

Tuesday morning the team saw patients at a Health Assistance Clinic.  They handed out many vitamins and parasite meds.  The doctor on the team was also able to be creative in treating patients with the limited meds that the team had available to them.  Many of the families that they saw in the clinic had over 8 family members.  It is coffee picking season so many of the teens were out working in the fields.

In the afternoon the team split up to make home visits.  It is amazing how God places people in the right location to serve.  The physical therapist on the team by chance visited the home of a parapalegic and was able to provide some assistance to make the patient’s life a little more comfortable.

Please pray that God will use this team to serve others and help provide care to those that have limited medical assistance.

Updated January 17,2011

I just got off the phone with Molly (5:46 p.m.) and the team has all arrived safely.  Misty’s bags did not arrive, however, so please pray that her bags arrive on Wednesday as promised.   The team is sharing clothes with her.  After flying intoTegucigalpa yesterday, they had a 2 1/2 hour ride north to arrive at their destination.  The weather was cool last night, but today it got pretty warm.  The team completed approximately 30 surveys for the community assessment as well as doing fluoride treatments and handing out vitamins and parasite medicine. This is coffee harvest time there and this is a very poor community.  Molly stated they were joined by the Pastor Jesus Mendoza, His wife and their 3 children.  The lodging facility is fine and Molly prays that this will be a life changing experience for the team.  Everyone is staying healthy and are waiting to have dinner, devotions and debriefing tonight.  Molly is very excited to hear the teams experiences that they encountered today.  Stay tuned for more information.  Please continue to pray for the team as I feel exciting things are happening for the team.
